I think this is quite disrespectful... the Pope was no Barbie..

What I liked in the Pope is that he was a very serene person and with a good sense of humour. However, I feel that this is some sort of ridicule... I am sure that non Catholics will not feel this way, but for Catholics I think it is quite a sensitive issue..

I come from a region of the world where this would definitely disrespectful but I can also see the positive symbolism that is being played on...

Well, I still think its not the best idea especially that it will offend so many people when the same message and symblosim could have been used ut in a different way

I guess I don't understand the intensity of the feelings involved - but I thought it was quite cute and endearing.

Did you guys know that the pope wears a solid gold ring on his finger called The Ring of the Fisherman? The ring is used to make a way seal on all official letters signed by the pope - and when the pope dies, one of the first things that is done is that his closest aide smashes the ring with a solid silver hammer. This is to prevent fake or forged documents being stamped by somebody else in the period in between the death of one pope and the selection of a new one.

Tom... I didn't understand the feelings. I am in Rome at the moment and what people feel is so intens that it gives me goose bumbs! People sleep on the street on a unsave train station, just to say goodbye to a Pope. In the curches they wish each other peace. It is nice to see.

But what I don't understand that some people cry because he died. It is sad, but also mayby a relieve for an old guy that never had a life on his own!
I think people should come to give him a last greet and just say rest in peace!

Rome is the most interesting place to be now.... The funniest people walk on the streets here right now!!!

Ingrid, awesome that you have a chance to be in Rome right now, I wish I was in your place, but what I'm wondering is how you can not understand people crying if a person has died?!? Or even saying that the Holy Father has never had a life of his own, which I don't understand at all. He was suffering and it was very hard to see, but at the same time, it's the great loss that this church is feeling at losing an amazing and inspiring leader. He really became like a grandfather to many of us, particularly those from Poland. But you also have to realize that the tears are mixed with happiness at having witnessed, sometimes personally, the amazing things that Pope John Paul II has achieved in his life. He truly became John Paul the Great.

Tom, as for you, I must admit I'm not surprised by your posting this, of course, controversial story. It's just something I've come to expect of you. =)

The Truly amazing wonder about this individual is the respect that he has from all around the world, even non catholics... Let us rejoice that the world was blessed by such a Pope, leading by example and making our world a better place! I am happy for the Pope, Happy for the life he lived.... I am happy for what he managed to change, happy to see him forgiving the man that tried to kill him years ago, Happy to see the Pope visiting this man frequently.... Imagine, sitting down, talking to the person who tried to kill you.... who shot you! This is the Pope.. some ppl may argue its PubliC Relations... but as for the Pope, he did it with his own heart....
