A Different Drummer

A little chaos can be refreshing

Andrew Sullivan's new book has experienced a minor/major setback - amazing that this can happen with such a high profile author and book, in the year 2006:
"As I write, the entire print-run of my forthcoming book, The Conservative Soul, is being pulped or trashed. A horrible printing error spliced half of the fifth chapter into the middle of the sixth, rendering the entire second half of the book incomprehensible...................All copies that were shipped are being recalled from booksellers. This is every writer's nightmare - especially as I discovered the error myself while re-reading the book late one night last week and couldn't believe my eyes."
Right now some poor bastard is getting fired like no-one has ever been fired before...

    Hey Tom,

This is Erica from Finland. How is the book writing going?

    Hey Erica,

Right now I'm actually focussing more on some "feature" length articles that I will submit to as many places as possible, and hopefully get published somewhere.

One article is exploring what Ramadan means to different kinds of people in Egypt, lots of interviews with different kinds of Muslims and non-Muslims here in Egypt.

The other is looking at the future of the city of Cairo, and the current government strategy to basically "abandon" wonderful, crumbling downtown Cairo, in favour of shiny new "satellite cities" out in the desert. Its more interesting than it sounds!

Both should be finished in the next week or so, and of course, they will be published here first!!

Peace, hope all is well in Finland or wherever you are...

    Hey Tom.

Great to hear. :) I am also dabbling in writing a book myself that is why I am looking for kindred spirits in the area. :)

Maybe we can start a blog of those who seriously want to get published so we can have an online writers community and we can imitate the group of Tolkien and CS Lewis. We can share the joys and pains of writing. Hehe.

    Just a thought. :)

    Cheers,
    Erica
