Tackiest building in the world to be built in you-know where

"Dubai’s skyline is about to get a new landmark shaped like a traditionally dressed Gulf national that will act as a truly welcoming beacon for people flying into the new Jebel Ali International Airport." (maktoob.com)

At least this monstrosity is going to be hidden out of my sight in Dubai, City of Monstrosities - something that ugly on the Cairo skyline would give me second thoughts about calling the place home....

You sure seem to be glad you aren't in Dubai. Personally, I wouldn't mind spending a few days there!
a few days maybe...but not much more than that. Hunter S. Thompson once said "My bloog is too thick for Las Vegas" and I know the sentiment - just the thought of living in Dubai makes my skin crawl...

Ha ha ha.
Yes, tacky and over the top is one thing Dubai does better than anyone else. By far.
Not many in Dubai, even among the Emirati citizens, like that bad idea for a building.
Yeah i thought that might be the case. Even somebody with a seriously unbalanced appreciation for over-the-top "concept" construction projects (ie, an Emirati) should find this monstrosity to be just one step too far...
No, not the tackiest. Not the taciest by a long shot. There are much tackier ones here (Madrid, Spain), though I admit that considerable levels of tackiness can be reached elsewhere. I have not traveled much but remember all those photos of camels sitting in the setting sun.....
And now for years I have been trying to find out why, why, why architects do not have to sign their concoctions in a well visible place.
