Where I am From

Why do I live away from my home town? Among other reasons, this is about the biggest news story to hit my city this year:
Outrage in Australia After Teens Beat Blind FlamingoGood to see everthing back home is ticking over just nicely...
The beating of a blind flamingo at a zoo in Australia has sparked outrage and prompted calls to review laws preventing underage offenders from being named.Readers of the AdelaideNow newspaper have vented their fury over Wednesday's attack on the Adelaide Zoo's 78-year-old flamingo — one of the zoo's main attractions since the 1930s. Pathetic
That's the problem with Adelaide.
In Tasmania you have a battle of the titans in Gunns Pulp Mill, State and Federal Governments v the majority of Tasmanians to make sure old growth forests remain unfelled.
In WA you have a former premier, ministers and advisers up on corruption charges - at least justice is sort of getting a say.
Even in QLD you have a state government trying to come to terms with Palm Islanders and creating calm after the sentencing of Lex Wotton.
But really, I think you just chose the story that amused you the most - that's not a great raison d'etre to avoid calling Adelaide home.
A much better excuse, is that you often have to go on walkabout to find yourself - and sometimes your journey is not to return home at all.
