I would shoot myself in the leg before voting Liberal. But what am I supposed to do here? First, you roll back the wonderful liberalism of my South Australian homeland. Then, you line up Australia with Saudi Arabia and North Korea by filtering the internet.
Now, you want to tax the money I earn while living in another country. You're dead to me.
For a classic example of the progressive impulse to see all money as the natural property of the government unless otherwise "given" to the people, read that crazy press release on the Australian treasury website.

"Many foreign countries are lower tax jurisdictions which means some Australians who earn income overseas are paying much less tax than if they earned income solely in Australia."True. We also consume no government services, are eligible for no benefits, and cost the Australian government pretty much nothing. But I guess that isn't really the point.
I feel your pain, elections comming up in Hungary, and I desperatly looking for anyone I can vote for, but every candidate is too disapointing even to consider
sad sad day for democracĂ

can you not apply for some sort of ex patriate tax scheme? canada has that for canadians who have been residing abroad for a certain number of years, possibly australia will too.
I had a closer look at this, and it seems like the new taxing expats scheme only applies to people who are still considered Australian residents.
Once you've been out of the country for more than two years (which I have, by a long shot) it seems like that no longer applies...
And equally, those of us in intense tax environments (e.g. the netherlands) should get a rebate from the australian govt.
I think Americans have to file US taxes, regardless of their residency. This may be pure falsehood.
